ASA Investigates BetVictor Advertisement Featuring Football Stars Busquets and Alba

The United Kingdom’s advertising regulatory body, the Advertising Standards Authority, initiated an investigation into a BetVictor advertisement displayed on Facebook. The ASA expressed concerns regarding the inclusion of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, two prominent Barcelona footballers at the time, in the promotional material.
Apparently, the ASA deemed the advertisement to possess an excessively enticing quality, particularly for individuals below the age of eighteen. They concluded that it exhibited an “irresponsible level of appeal” to minors, a practice strictly prohibited under UK advertising regulations.
Felix Faulkner, an attorney at the legal practice, remarked on the judgment, saying it offers increased transparency on which sportspeople are subject to the updated guidelines established by the UK Advertising Standards Authority.
Faulkner continued, “This marks the initial instance of a decision concerning a player situated abroad, representing an advance beyond the advice presented by the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) in the preceding October.”
