National Lottery License Appeal Leaves Allwyn UK Head Dismayed

Allwyn UKs head, Justin King, voiced his discontent with the recent legal proceedings surrounding the appeal process for the fourth National Lottery permit.

A statement issued yesterday by the Gambling Commission (GC) verified that the High Court had lifted the automatic postponement implemented on June 29th, 2022. This hold originally blocked the GC from officially granting the fourth National Lottery license to Allwyn. However, both Camelot and IGT subsequently sought permission from the Court of Appeal to contest this ruling, a plea that has now been approved, much to King’s dissatisfaction. This turn of events means the automatic suspension will persist until the conclusion of the appeals process.

The appeal hearing is projected to occur during the week of September 12th. In its most recent proclamation, the GC restated its position throughout these legal actions, affirming that it “has consistently maintained that disrupting the execution of Allwyn’s blueprints would likely yield significant repercussions for the National Lottery and charitable organizations.”

Mirroring this view, King remarked: “We are clearly disheartened by the judgment… [since] the appeal will not be heard until September, which unavoidably generates additional holdups and ambiguity. It is highly disappointing that as a consequence of this postponement, charities will forfeit £1bn of financial support.”

“Camelot and IGT are now required to furnish their security for costs, as mandated by the Court, by 4 pm on Friday.”

Observe, they must ensure the revised strategy incorporates the National Lottery or simply acknowledge Justice O’Farrell’s statement for the benefit of the Lottery and its supported charities. It’s the sole method to revitalize progress and permit the Gambling Commission to ultimately award the fourth permit to Allwyn.”
