Supreme Court Ruling Affirms Tribal Sovereignty in Texas Bingo Case

Gaming Solutions provider, AGS, applauds a recent Supreme Court judgment permitting bingo on Texas tribal territories. The Court upheld the authority of two Indigenous communities, the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe, to provide digital bingo on their reservations without state oversight.

This represents a major triumph for the tribes, given Texas’s stringent gaming regulations. They have consistently maintained that their gaming activities fall under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), which grants tribes the right to govern gaming on their lands. The Supreme Court’s decision reinforces this right, effectively enabling the tribes to offer electronic bingo despite state objections.

AGS Chief Executive Officer, David Lopez, commended the verdict, deeming it a win for tribal autonomy and self-governance. He stressed the significance of this decision for the economic prospects of these sovereign nations. AGS has a longstanding commitment to serving tribal gaming operators and views this ruling as a favorable advancement for the sector.

Lopez stated, “The Alabama-Coushatta nation is completely within their rights to provide digital bingo on their sovereign territory. We are allied with them and all tribal nations as they utilize their self-governance. We want them to prosper in this venture and all future endeavors.”

“We are honored to stand with all of our Indigenous partners throughout the country, particularly these nations who have struggled extensively for the autonomy to develop their own economic systems.”
